Steps for Each Year of High School

FRESHMAN YEAR

  1. Talk to your guidance counselor to make sure you understand college entrance requirements
  2. Begin saving information about your scholastic and athletic achievements
  3. Sign up at onlinecollegescouting.com to let colleges recruit you. [IT'S FREE!]
  4. Get involved early.
    • At your school & in your community
    • Much of your success in college will depend on your ability to manage time
    • Colleges look for students who are active and are able to handle busy schedules
    • The more people you meet, the more experience you gain, the better chance you will have of discovering your interests
  5. It's never too early to dream about "what you want to be when you grow up"
  6. Don't forget to have fun!

FRESHMAN ATHLETES

Consider joining an athletic team at your school. It can be a rewarding experience for all participants. Whether or not you will be the star player should not be the reason you tryout. The rewards of playing on a team will be far greater than you can imagine. Discipline, teamwork and lifetime friendships are the result of dedicating yourself to being the best player you can be.

If it turns out you are one of the best players on your team and you feel you can play at the next level, then here's a tip that will give you an advantage over most athletes. If you want to participate in athletics in college you need to be faster and stronger. Not just faster and stronger than your teammates. You need to condition yourself starting today in a way that makes you stand out from the rest of your competition.

There are hundreds of thousands of talented kids just like you vying for a coveted spot on their favorite college team. If you have the talent and you commit yourself as a freshman you will increase your odds of being "the one" who makes it. Of course if your grades are not well "conditioned" then all your sweat and physical effort will be for nothing. Grades come first. Talent, speed and strength come next.
